CTH launches battle against Apple

CTH launches battle against Apple

CTH, a local cable TV operator, has filed criminal and civil lawsuits against Apple, demanding Bt100 million compensation for the latter's violation to its broadcasting right.

The charges were filed against Apple Inc, Apple South Asia (Thailand), Gene D. Levoff - the authorised director of Apple South Asia (Thailand).
In the affidavit, CTH said Apple earlier allowed the download of the "Sport Channel" application. Through this application which costs US$20 for iPhone and $20.99 for iPad, the British Premier League matches can be viewed.
CTH, the licensee for the broadcasting of those matches in Thailand, gained nothing from the download or any fee from Apple.
The Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court schedules the first hearing on the criminal lawsuit on November 18. Meanwhile, the civil lawsuit's hearing is scheduled for December 23.
