Thailand scored an emphatic victory over debutants Mongolia to end their roundrobin preliminaries in second place to Kazakhstan in Pool A in the 17th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship at the Chaichai Hall yesterday.

With the 25-12 25-9 25-5 win in a totally onesided encounter, Thailand have collected six points, while Kazakhstan continued their remarkable unbeaten run with a 3-1 (25-16 25-15 24-26 25-18) victory over Australia to top the pool with nine points.
Both Kazakhstan and Thailand advanced to the last eight, where they will join Japan and Vietnam (Pool C winners and runnersup) in the Pool E roundrobin competition.

The remaining teams from the four pools – Australia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Iran or Independent Team from India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Myanmar – will be relegated to play in the 9th16th classification round.
