Eccentric but always accessible

The new Marc by Marc Jacobs collection wows the crowds at a fun party hosted by heartthrob Nadech Kugimiya

ALREADY ONE of the hottest autumn and winter 2013 collections to come to Bangkok, Marc by Marc Jacobs outfits received an extra boost in popularity when actor Nadech Kugimiya donned his DJ hat for the recent showing at Siam Discovery.
Celebrities, guests, the media and shoppers packed out the corridors, all striving to catch a glimpse of the cool clothes – and of the handsome Nadech.
And they weren’t disappointed. The collection was impressive, funky yet chic, drawing from the bold aesthetic of the 1930s and 1940s.
Inspired by the daring intellectual style of Hollywood actresses of the time, the outfits offered a clean approach to modern decadence with understated styling and refined feminine touches applied to masculine and military influences.
Marc by Marc Jacobs has traditionally been the designer’s vehicle for a kind of low-key collegiate funk, and on that level, it's usually been a sterling success. Last week’s show felt different, spouting a bit more wattage in the hair and makeup and a bit more sex in the clothes.
The prints, proportions, and satiny sheen echoed Roxy Music fans refracting the ’40s through a ’70s glam lens and the boys also looked cool in long button-downs over baggy cargos that Jacobs and his team have somehow made seem desirable once again.
Accessories were vibrant and utterly wearable. In sum, the collection wasn’t anything more or anything less than fashion should be - the desire to look stylish without looking like a trend-chaser.
