Ratchanok in Denmark Open semi-finals

World champion Ratchanok Intanon and talented Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk kept the Thai flag flying in the Denmark Open by advancing to the semi-finals of the Superseries Premier badminton competition on Friday.

World No 2 and second seed Ratchanok defeated world No 19 Eriko Hirose of Japan 24-22 18-21 21-12. It was the third victory in three meetings for the Thai who took 68 minutes to finish off her rival. In the semi-finals later yesterday, Ratchanok was to challenge Asian winner and world No 5 Wang Yihan, the only Chinese player she had never beaten in their previous six matches.
In the men’s singles, world No 19 Tanongsak stunned world No 15 Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia 21-16 21-11. Tanongsak was due to play world No 2 Chen Long of China in the semi-finals.
In the women’s doubles, Duanganong Aroonkesorn and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul lost to world No 4 Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi of Japan 21-14 21-14 in the quarter-finals.
