EU gives Bt158 million to boost policy dialogue, knowledge

The government and the European Union last week launched the "Thailand-European Union Policy Dialogues Support Facility" (PDSF), a 3.75-million-euro (Bt158-million) programme funded by the EU to support Thailand towards sustainable economic and social g

The 42-month programme will run until February 15, 2017, and aims to enhance policy dialogues between the two partners and develop the capacity of Thai governmental agencies by providing them with technical assistance in four main areas – trade and investment; higher education, science and technology; environment, climate change and energy; and good governance.
“The Thailand-EU PDSF builds on experiences from prior cooperation, in particular TEC I & TEC II,” said Attila Nyitrai, minister-counsellor and deputy head of the EU Delegation to Thailand.
“The EU is glad to fund the PDSF, which will contribute to the success of Thailand, considered a main partner of the EU in this region.”
Suchada Thaibunthao, acting director-general of the Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA), said the Thailand-EU PDSF would play a major role in the next few years in driving the Kingdom forward and strengthening the Thailand-EU partnership.
The fund will be used to provide technical assistance in the four specified areas and to organise events such as seminars, workshops and studies.
These activities will be aimed at stimulating exchanges of know-how, expertise and best practices between Thailand and the EU and deepening policy dialogues.
