Green Roof Project lands climate-change award

Green Roof Project lands climate-change award

The Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, as the national focal point for climate-change adaptation, has presented 20 awards to outstanding individuals and organisations in Thailand.

The Green Roof Project was selected as one of three projects recognised for an excellent association/ foundation contributing to climate-change management.
SinchaiThiensiri, right, environment manager of Tetra Pak (Thailand), on behalf of the Green Roof Project for the Princess Pa Foundation accepted the “Climate Change Adaptation” award from Vichet Kasemthongsri, the natural resources and environment minister, at the opening ceremony of the “Climate Change Adaptation Expo”, held recently at Central World Square.
The project was initiated by Tetra Pak (Thailand) – in collaboration with the Princess Pa Foundation, the Thai Red Cross Society and Big C Supercentre – to campaign for proper collection and recycling of used beverage cartons by turning them into roofing sheets for those in need under the Princess Pa Foundation’s charity projects.
The collection of used cartons can also significantly lessen the amount of carbon-dioxide emission into the atmosphere caused by landfills or incinerators.
