Suspect in Taungoo bomb blast being probed

An arrest has been made and an interrogation carried out in relation to the bomb blast that occurred in Taungoo on October 11, Police Major Win Sein of Myanmar Police Force said yesterday.

“We arrested the suspect, Saw Tun Tun, on Monday at Kyauk Kyi. We have installed CCTV cameras where an interrogation has been conducted,” said Win Sein.
The blast hit a local guest house, Chan Myae, at about 8pm on October 11 in Taungoo, a town in Bago Region, killing a policeman and a woman.
The blast erupted as the man opened a yellow package in the room where they were staying.
Police officer Nay Myo Kyaw, 29, from the Taungoo Township Railways Police Department, was speaking with Yu Yu Khine, 23, and Nyein Thida, 27, when they saw the package in their room. The package exploded when the policeman tried to open it, killing him on the spot.
Yu Yu Khine died later at the hospital from her injuries.
After an investigation, the Ministry of Home Affairs identified Saw Tun Tun as the prime suspect in the bomb blast.
KNU Brigade 3 assisted the authorities in capturing the suspect, according to Police- Maj Win Sein.
