Vietnamese flock to see snowfall in north

The town of Sa Pa in Vietnam's northern province of Lao Cai, is a major tourist attraction. These days, the scenic town wears an even more attractive look as it is covered by more than five centimetres of thick, white, snow.

Officials at the Nui Xe Forest Management station in the town’s Hoang Lien National Park say all that snow has caused traffic congestion at the roads into the town, as tourists and visitors from all over the country flock in to see the rare sight.
Station officials said that snow started to fall on the Sa Pa highlands, which is located 1,900m above sea level, on Sunday morning. Temperatures have dipped to as low as minus-2 degrees Celsius, causing icy sheets as thick as 20cm thick to form.
Average temperatures remained low since Sunday, accompanied by fog and drizzle. The station has also released a warning of strong winds, whirlwinds and hailstorms in the coming days.
Meanwhile, northern Vietnam as a whole has been experiencing unusually cold weather recently, with temperatures dropping to below 10 degrees Celsius in a few mountainous areas.
