Celebration of folklore

The Surin Rajabhat University in Surin is playing host of the International Folklore Festival from January 15 to 25.

The event, which celebrates the spirit of folk art and music, attracts more than 300 artists and performers from several countries including Cambodia, Laos, Ukraine and Israel. A textile exhibition and academic seminar on folklore take place on the sidelines. Famous for Khmer-speaking mahouts and its elephant village, Surin is about 350 kilometres from Bangkok. The Parasol and Handicraft Festival returns to Chiang Mai from January 17 to 19 and will, as ever, features a parade of beautiful women on bicycle.
