Shares rise on end of "Bangkok Shutdown"

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index gained 1 per cent on Monday, as investors welcomed the anti-government protesters' decision to end the "Bangkok shutdown" campaign.

The Thai baht also strengthened to 32.53-32.59 per US dollar. It is expected to further gain against the greenback tomorrow, to move in the range of 32.50-32.60.
The composite SET index ended 13.88 points or 1.05 per cent higher, to 1,339.21 points. Turnover also increased from last week to Bt40 billion.
Other Asian stocks tumbled as tensions over Ukraine intensified.
Foreign investors, which had been net-sellers of Thai shares in the past weeks, today also returned to be net-buyers. The net buy of Bt1.15 billion on Monday helped reduce the year-to-date net sale to Bt33.89 billion.
RHB OSK Securities (Thailand) attributed the rise to the end of the political campaign. Hotel and retail stocks showed an increase in share prices today. Yet, it warned that the euphoria would be short-lived given remaining political uncertainties.
