Vietnam rejects US claims on human rights

Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh rejected some allegations in a US human rights report on Vietnam, saying they were neither objective nor accurate.

According to Binh, some of the assessments in the report are not based on accurate information and do not reflect the reality of human rights in Vietnam.
Binh said it has been Vietnam’s consistent policy to promote and respect human rights. All citizens are allowed to practise their rights within the law, he said.
He said Vietnam’s efforts were clearly noted by the international community at its completion of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) recently in February.
Binh also said Vietnam was willing to engage in constructive dialogue with other countries, including the US, who have different views on human rights, in order to help them gain better understanding and have more objective assessments.
