The next big splash in nightlife

The next big splash in nightlife

Onyx on RCA ushers Bangkok into an era of world-class clubbing

Bangkok night prowlers brace for the new exciting experiences as Ciroc Vodka teams up with Onyx to create a new dimension to Thai nightlife on RCA.
The “ultra-premium” vodka and the international-level “superclub” were determined to put RCA on the global clubbing map with electrifying performances, international DJs, world-class light and sound system and “social nightlife international” experiences.
Paul Sirisant of Ciroc Vodka, who is also a DJ and the renowned marketer who helped launched Smirnoff vodka in Thailand, shared his insight at the celebrity-studded opening last month.
“The past three or four years saw a good change in Thai-nightlife culture. International cocktail culture has gradually become prominent among Thais. But personally I think cocktail culture will slow down and clubbers will shift to international nightlife culture.
“Partly because of the digital media and social networks, Thais are starting to appreciate foreign club music more and hence seek more international experiences in clubbing and music they’ve experienced in New York, Seoul, Shanghai and London. That’s why we teamed up with Onyx, to offer that experience to nightlife consumers with luxurious fun.
“Right now Hong Kong, Shanghai, Korea and Singapore all have international clubs. Zouk in Singapore has won world-class awards and is widely recognised by many world-class DJs. Octagon in Seoul is relatively new but has quickly become one of the city’s top clubs and it’s popular among Korean actors, artists and celebrities. We in Bangkok are at the turning point in adopting international nightlife culture.”
Onxy aspires to offer a world-class clubbing experience by incorporating music cultures of the world and taking full advantage of state-of-the-art light and sound as well as premium service under the concept “Music Odyssey”.
The club claims to be the country’s first to launch “social music nightlife” feature KUVO by Pioneer that connects the DJs’ music in dance clubs all over the world. The feature imports the song to you via a mobile application and website, so you can access the songlists of DJs performing in dance clubs all over the world in real time. You can also comment on the songs and share ideas instantly with other clubbers at any parties anywhere in the world.
The sound system of the dance floor is enhanced with Thailand’s first Dance Stack Configuration, which is specifically designed and set up especially for electronic music. Lighting and visuals are heightened with massive HD LED screens that give off a concert vibe. The high ceiling and stage lighting make it an ideal venue for various types of performances.
“In Bangkok right now it’s just pubs with live bands, but things will change very quickly, because the majority of clubbers see the potential for an international clubbing trend in Thailand,” Paul says. “From now on we’ll see more international-standard superclub experiences, DJ turntables and proper table service in Bangkok.”
Well, there’s actually absolutely nothing wrong with pubs with live bands, provided that the quality is there. And, in fact, a live band is a decent break from thumping electronic music that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s refreshing to see new experiences being introduced in the nightlife scene, but what we need even more is consistency and quality, because that’s actually what could put Bangkok on the map. We’ve seen enough of clubs and bars that started off wonderfully but then drifted into mediocrity.
