US Commerce Secretary Pritzker to join Asean mission

US Commerce Secretary Pritzker to join Asean mission

The US-Asean Business Council will organise its second annual CEO-level business mission to Vietnam and the Philippines in June, building on the success of last year's mission to Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Asean Secretariat.

The 2014 CEO mission will include the CEOs of at least seven member companies from a variety of sectors and to underscore US government support for high-level private sector dialogues with Asean business and government officials, Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker will travel with the delegation.
The council believes that Pritzker’s participation shows the government’s commitment to the economic aspect of the rebalance towards Asia, and will further enable joint public-private sector efforts to build meaningful partnerships with Asean.
US businesses hold combined investment of US$190 billion in 10 Asean nations, bigger than the combined sum in China, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and New Zealand.  Sustained, high-level engagement from the private sector is essential to maintaining and expanding economic ties,
Vietnam and the Philippines are two of Asean’s fastest growing countries, and the delegation will meet with the leaders of the government and the Asean private sector to exchange views and discuss impediments to and opportunities for increasing trade and investment between the US and Asean nations.
