Thai side finishes third in Liverpool tournament

Thanat Thanik, the Thai representatives at the futsal tournament, Standard Chartered Trophy 2014: Road To Anfield, came third in the finale of the event, which was held at the home of Liverpool FC last Tuesday.

The team from Chiang Mai flew to England last week to represent their country and performed creditably, beating a team from Hong Kong 2-0 to wrap up third spot.

Thanat Thanik won six games against teams from Nigeria, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Gambia and Kenya. Their winning run was ended, however, when a team from Vietnam beat them 2-0 in the semi-finals.
The Vietnamese team went on to win the tournament, beating a Singaporean outfit 1-0 in the final. The winners took the crown that was awarded last year to Thai team We Kick.
The international competition, which recently won Best International Marketing Campaign at the BT Sports Industry Awards, saw 98 participants, representing fourteen finalist countries, taking part.
The field was eventually whittled down to one representative from each country for the finals in Liverpool.
The Standard Chartered Trophy: Road to Anfield tournament is run in partnership with Standard Chartered Bank, the main sponsors of Liverpool FC.
