The US$300,000 Queen's Cup-Bangkok Airways golf tournament will take place from June 5 to 8 at the Santiburi Samui Country Club.

Sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Thailand PGA, the fifth edition of the tournament will feature Thai stars Thaworn Wiratchant (winner here in 2008 and 2012), Chawalit Palaphol (winner in 2006 and 2011), Chinnarat Phadungsilp (winner in 2009), Arnond Vongvanij and Prom Meesawat. Leading pros from around Asia making the trip include Bangladesh’s Sidikur Rahman and Singapore’s Madan Mamat.
Missing from the roster are local legends Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Abhibarnrat, who are playing a European Tour event, while defending champion Prayad Marksaeng is busy on the Japan Tour.
ML Nandhika Varavarn, Bangkok Airways vice president of corporate communications, said: “We are particularly excited to be organising this tournament for the sixth year in honour of our beloved Queen Sirikit. We have always striven to take this tournament to the international level. We are hoping that the event will draw a large number of golf fans to this island and stimulate the tourism sector.”
The tournament’s pro-am event will be held next Wednesday (June 4), giving local amateur players the chance to compete with Asia’s top pros. The tournament will be broadcast live on TrueSport and also featured on the Asian Tour Golf Show.
