Swiss watchmaker Piaget brings its exquisite and sophisticated timepieces to Bangkok

Renowned Swiss watchmaker and jeweller Piaget enters a brave new world of artistry and powerful emotions with the launch of its new “Mythical Journey” collection.
Introduced at the Central International Watch Fair 2014, which kicked off on Tuesday, this captivating collection is inspired by the famed journeys along the Silk and Spice roads and, in keeping with the finest Piaget traditions, merges boldness with creativity. In a first for the watchmaking industry, Piaget uses gold thread on watch dials, a delicate embroidery technique that requires working within less than half-millimetre precision. Piaget has worked closely with embroidery artisans to guarantee the accurate proportions of the motifs and comply with the size constraints imposed by the dial, the height of the hand-fitting and the extreme slenderness of the case.
Indian elephants engraved in diamonds and rubies bring a glitter to a gold dial in one model, while in another, cranes, pine trees and water shimmer in gold and diamonds. Plum blossoms are painstakingly embroidered with gold thread and satin on a third and in a fourth, pine trees in precious thread enhance a black silk dial.
These and other new timepieces will be drawing connoisseurs to the show, which continues until September 30 at Central Chidom’s event hall.
Another key highlight is the Piaget Emperador Coussin Gem-set Tourbillon. In technical terms, this model reflects Piaget’s expertise in the field of ultra-thin movements and well as its determination to develop complication calibres that are both innovative and creative. The Calibre 1270P is the first Piaget ultra-thin self-winding tourbillon movement with a thickness of only 5.55 mm. Fully exhibited thanks to its sapphire crystal dial, this model’s technical prowess is also highlighted by the extreme sophistication of its gem-setting. Baguette-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds adorn not only its case, profiles and case back, which in turn reveals the carriage and power-reserve display, but also its folding-clasp buckle and the rings around the oscillating weight and tourbillon. More than 140 hours of gem-setting were required to create this numbered timepiece. Simple, precious and elegant, it is the epitome of the art of gem-setting and fine watchmaking.
