Ratch in JV to build co-generation plant

Ratch in JV to build co-generation plant

Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding (Ratch) and Rajburi Sugar Co have agreed to develop a 100-megawatt gas-fired co-generation power plant for Bt4.7 billion.

Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Co, a subsidiary of Ratch, and Rajburi Sugar will set up a 35:65 joint venture called Rajburi Cogeneration Co to develop and operate the plant, which will also be able to produce 15 tonnes of steam per hour, with the commercial operation date set for 2019.
Pongdith Potchana, chief executive officer of Ratch and chairman of Ratchaburi Electricity Generating, said on Monday that besides corporate value creation, Ratch was committed to secure power generation to enhance the national electricity system.
The successful formation of this joint venture demonstrates that commitment.
Ratch will integrate its extensive experience and expertise in electricity generation with Rajburi Sugar’s strengths, striving for the project’s contribution to the economy, society and the environment, he said.
The Rajburi project is Ratch’s third co-generation power plant and 16th domestic project that helps accelerate its equity capacity to 5 gigawatts. The company will chip in about Bt410 million.
“Importantly, this success marks the good start of a business partnership between both parties with the common goals of enhancing corporate growth and securing the electricity supply system in Thailand,” he said.
Sunthorn Arunanondchai, chairman of Rajburi Sugar, said the venture had been designated as an SPP (small power producer) project using a co-generation system with a firm agreement by the Electricity Authority of Thailand (Egat) under the Energy Regulatory Commission’s resolution of 2010 according to the solicitation for a 2GW power-purchase scheme.
Egat and Rajburi Sugar’s subsidiaries will be the major purchasers of power from the plant.
“We are confident in the capability of Ratch because of its extensive experience and specialisation for more than a decade in developing and managing power plants both in Thailand and abroad, as well as its clear social-responsibility commitment.
“From now on, the two partners will put their best efforts into developing the Rajburi Cogeneration project to be completed in 2019 as planned,” he said.
As a leading energy company in Thailand, Ratch aims to grow sustainably to Bt282 billion in enterprise value, or the equivalent of installed capacity of 9.7GW in 2023.
