Search continues for pair who reached peak of Mount Khaka Borazi

The search for two mountaineers who reached the peak of Southeast Asia's high mountain, Khaka Borazi, will continue until rescue teams locate them or discover what happened to them, rescue team leaders said.

The pair has not been heard from since they sang the national anthem over their walkie-talkies on August 31 after planting the Myanmar flag on the mountain’s peak as dusk approached.
Chinese mountaineering team Blue Sky arrived to assist the search, but returned to China because their equipment was insufficient, rescue teams said, adding that Chinese assistance was still being sought.
Two leaders of the eight-member Myanmar expedition planted the national flag atop the mountain on August 31, but failed to arrive at base camp on September 8 as planned.
The team was sponsored by Thabawa Khawthan (Nature’s Call) Foundation, which is participating, along with the Htoo Foundation, in the search for the missing men.
The two mountaineers who planted the flag on August 31 were expected to join the six other members of their expedition at base camp on September 8 but did not show up.
“Htoo Foundation is inviting the top rescue teams to assist the search. We will at least find out what happened to them,” Myo Thant, said chairperson of University Mountaineering Team.
The search is being undertaken by the Htoo Foundation, Northern Command and Air Force, as well as rescue teams from the United States, Nepal and Thailand, said Han Lin Tun, a member of one mountaineering team.
