P&G becomes Amcham's 100th member

The American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) Myanmar Chapter welcomed giant consumer products producer Procter & Gamble as the 100th member, marking a new milestone for the chapter which was established last November.

“With 100 companies now onboard we have a great platform to facilitate the future success of our members as well as promote our ethics and business values in Myanmar," said Judy Benn, acting director of Amcham Myanmar Chapter.

Amcham Myanmar Chapter aims to promote trade and encourage responsible investment in Myanmar. The chapter was created by Amcham Thailand in November 2013, to provide a forum for discussing Myanmar as a business and investment location, following the United States’ lifting of most trade sanctions.

Its members are operating in different businesses fields in Myanmar, ranging from Yum! Myanmar Co Ltd, Unocal Myanmar Offshore Co Ltd, Standard Chartered Bank, Today Ogilvy & Mather Myanmar, ACE INA International Holdings Ltd, British American Tobacco Myanmar, General Electric Advisory Services Co Ltd, Grant Thornton Advisory Services Co Ltd, and John W. Hancock and Associates Ltd.

An event was hosted last Thursday to celebrate P&G’s membership. The event drew prominent members of Myanmar's business community to mark this milestone and show their support for Amcham’s activities in Myanmar. Sponsored by CEA Logistics and The Park Royal Hotel the event was attended by more than two hundred people and featured speeches from Benn and John Hamilton, country manager of CEA Logistics Myanmar. The event also saw Virginia Murray, Charg d'affaires, US Embassy Yangon Myanmar, present Lee Yeong, country manager, Procter & Gamble Myanmar.

“It was fantastic to see so many members of Yangon's business community coming out to celebrate this milestone,” Benn said.

All proceeds from the event were donated to the Amcham Myanmar Scholarship Fund, continuing AMCHAM's support of underprivileged students at Yangon University.
