Radio station 94.5 FM re-invents itself by merging indie tunes with luk thung

Radio station 94.5 FM has taken a bold step into the future by merging two programming formats – indie music from Cat Radio and luk thung (Thai folk) on Lukthung Easy – into a single radio wave.
“It’s the first time that a radio station is made up of two very different formats,” said programming director Pongnarin “Jong” Ulice during the recent press conference at House Rama RCA.
“It is also the first time a radio station is playing easy-listening luk thung for all levels of Bangkokains to enjoy, whether they are executives or factory workers.”
The DJs manning the Lukthung Easy decks are Natpassara “Golf” Adulyamethasiri and Kittipong “Kroi” Thumwipat, who host the 8-10am slot before handing over the Ie Weeranukul from 10am to 12.30pm. Wararit Manklanon takes over from 1-3pm, Lapasrada “Natt” Charoenwong from 3-6pm, Thanabodi “Off” Pholcharoen from midnight to 3am, and Chaiyarit Watsarasit from 3-6am.
Cat Radio, which focuses on indie music, airs round the clock on online digital radio ThisIsCat.com and on 94.5 FM from 8pm to midnight.”
“We think of ourselves as talent scouts,” Pongnarin added. “Our aim is to support new artists.”
