Proposal to put LPG on price-control list

Proposal to put LPG on price-control list

The Department of Energy Business will discuss with the Commerce Ministry the possibility of putting liquefied petroleum gas for the transport sector on the price-control list after discovering the LPG price at some retail stations is higher than the pric

The department’s director-general, Witoon Kulcharoenwirat, said that higher prices were being charged despite the already high mark-up of Bt3.25 per kilogram.
He said he realised that retailers could set the price as LPG for the transport sector was not on the price-control list.
The government set the LPG price for the sector on a per-kilogram basis but retailers sold it on a per-litre basis.
Witoon said the current LPG price of Bt22 per kg was the equivalent of about Bt11.88 per litre.
Based on the per-litre basis, retailers would get a mark-up of Bt1.75 per litre. However, some stations sold LPG at Bt14 per litre.
Currently there are about 1,800 LGP stations in Thailand.
