A Tour de Thailande?

A Tour de Thailande?

Thailand might play host to a one-day event next year as part of the Tour de France, the world's most prestigious and famous bicycle race, if Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) manages to reach agreement with Tour de France agency.

Earlier reports indicated that the TAT was hoping to host the entire Tour but the Paris-based Amaury Sport Organisation has been quick to deny this, citing a misunderstanding. TAT Governor, Thawatchai Arunyik, however, remains hopeful. More talks are underway, but we expect Thailand to serve as the perfect host to this esteemed and prominent cycling race as early as in 2015,” he said.

In celebration of culture
Mae Hong Son province is hosting the Chong Para ceremony from today through October 16 to celebrate the end of the three-month-long Buddhist Retreat. The festival marks the Lord Buddha’s return from heaven after visiting his mother for three months. The Tai Yai (or Shan) people in Mae Hong Son traditionally build a wooden castle and decorate it with colourful paper and illuminate it with lanterns to welcome the Lord Buddha. The festival, which also features spectacular cultural performances, is celebrated in Mae Sariang, Pai and Mae Hong Son town. For more information, call (053) 612 016.

Chic in Chiang Mai
Akyra Manor in Chiang Mai is scheduled to open its doors to guests early next year, pushing Chiang Mai’s design innovations and architecture to the next level. With a facade created as a contemporary reimagining of Chiang Mai's iconic and ancient Old City wall, the hotel expects to become a head-turner on Nimmanhaemin Road, Chiang Mai’s hip strip for hanging out with friends. The new city hotel will managed by AHMS – The Collection and feature a state-of-the-art show kitchen and pizza ovens.
