Telenor to start SIM card distribution in Yangon today

Telenor to start SIM card distribution in Yangon today

Telenor SIM cards, which have been used since October 11 to test its mobile network, will go on sale at mobile shops in Yangon today.

Telenor SIM cards were sold on September 27 in Mandalay and on October 3 in Nay Pyi Taw. Although users expected Telenor’s SIM card sale to begin on October 11, the telecom firm fell behind schedule.
On October 11, some Telenor SIM cards were distributed to mobile shops for network testing.
“We got one SIM card to use for network testing. They asked us to distribute the cards on October 13,” a person from a mobile shop in Dagon Township said.
“It was convenient when we tried the card for network testing. Two types of Internet usages approved regarding the Internet speed are also good. I think they will start their sale on October 14 and 15,” Kyaw Oo from a mobile shop in Pabedan Township said.
There are many people in Yangon who have been eagerly waiting for the Telenor SIM cards. Currently, MPT SIM cards are still not easily available. A Ks 1500 card is sold in the black market for around Ks 20,000. Telenor reportedly plans to make its cards available not only in mobile shops but also in other shops.
