Bt25 billion expected to circulate in Bangkok

Bt25 billion expected to circulate in Bangkok

Bangkokians will spend around Bt6,300 per person on average for the upcoming New Year celebrations, prompting more than Bt25 billion to change hands during the holiday season, according to a survey by Kasikorn Research Centre (KResearch).

Though the higher cost of living is pressuring Bangkokians’ spending behaviour, the research centre has found that over 76 per cent still gave importance to arranging activities to celebrate the New Year under a planned budget.
The centre has projected that more than Bt25 billion will circulate during the festivity, a year-on year increase of 8.2 per cent.
In the capital, residents will spend about Bt6,300 each on average during this year’s New Year celebration, higher than last year's figure of Bt5,700 per head.
Most of their spending would be for food, beverages, and travel, according to the survey.
Meanwhile, gift baskets remained the number one choice for New Year's presents, followed by applications on smartphone, which are expected to be popular among teenagers and those in the working age group.
