Nights out at the karaoke joint

Rattapoom "Film" Tokongsup produces and stars in a new TV soap

Singer and actor Rattapoom “Film” Tokongsup dons a new hat this year, taking on the role of producer with his first TV drama “Mae Lueak Kerd Dai”, which starts airing on Thursday.
Directed by Piyapong Kampakul, the new drama revolves around rival karaoke bars. Ban Saneh Jan has Nongyao (Suteewan “Baitoey” Thaveesin), Saipin (Wanida “Gibzy” Termthanaporn), and Sri (Sukhonthawa “Mai” Kerdnimit on its staff while Ban Suk Samran boasts April, May and Tune.
The rivalry becomes even fiercer when all six girls fall for Krit, the good-looking son of a local politician and attempt to win his heart. Krit, however, has his eyes on newcomer Baiporn but she prefers Singha, portrayed by Film, the young man’s bodyguard.
“Singha is the taciturn but kind-hearted gunman,” says Film, adding that he’s found it hard at times to act and product simultaneously.
“Being a producer is new and challenging for me. This drama doesn’t just focus on sexy girls but also on social problems. Viewers will discover why those girls are forced to work at night,” Film says.
“And I am really grateful to Channel 8’s executive vice president Ong-art Singlumpong for giving me the chance and lots of advice.”
The soap also features Napapat “Mod” Wattanakamonwut, Panadda “Boom” Wongphudee, Natalie Davis, Kessarin “Nui” Ektawatkul, Iyawarin “Charm” Osathanond, Passorn “Honey” Boonyakiart, Apaporn Nakhonsawan, Benjasiri “Beau” Wattana, Pattanapol “Man” Kunchorn Na Ayutthaya, Bancherd “Chokun” Santanapanich, Kwannapa “Lala” Ruangsri, and Kanyarat Nawaratrungrot.
“My character Baiporn is optimistic and obedient and does everything for her mother. Given my previous acting experience, it’s not hard for me to play this role,” says Napapat.
Baitoey, meanwhile, says Nongyao is not very different from Bua, the character she portrayed in “Nong Mia”, the series that marked her acting debut.
“Nongyao is friendly and cheerful, especially with men,” says the singer. “She also argues a lot. I hope TV viewers will enjoy the drama, which really reflects how women often have to fight again being victimised by those who try to benefit from them.”
“Saipin is a former sexy actress who is both arrogant and envious. She conspires against others. She’s much fiercer than the other characters I have played,” says Gibzy.

Tune in and chill out
“Mae Lueak Kerd Dai” will air on Channel 8 from Thursday. Episodes go out every Thursday and Friday at 7.45am, 1pm and 7pm.
