Transformation Film partners CJ Entertainment

AFTER ESTABLISHING units in Vietnam and Indonesia for film and entertainment business, South Korea-based CJ Entertainment is making its first footprint in Thailand through a partnership with local movie-maker Transformation Film to co-create a film aimed

“We hope it will be a long-term partnership in which we can learn together with talented people in the Thai film industry, while we hope to bring movies to Thais through our international network,” Jeong Tae-sung, chief executive officer for the film division at CJ Entertainment, said yesterday.
Having in the last couple of years entered Vietnam and Indonesia, the Korean company now aims to spread its film and entertainment units further across Southeast Asia via co-investment, joint ventures and appointing its own distributors, he said. “We see potential in Thai film-makers, while many Thai films have been recognised internationally. With our strong distribution network in China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and the US, this would be a good chance for Thai films to be seen more overseas,” said the CEO.
Jeong made the remarks after the announcement of CJ Entertainment’s co-investment in a Bt60-million comedy-film project, called “Tae Kob Fah Cha-lui 2015”, with Transformation Film.
The movie targets teenagers and young adults in the 15-to-23 age bracket by starring famous Thai actors such as Nachat “Nicky” Juntapan and Mek “Jessi” Mekwattana, as well as Nichkhun Horvejkul – a vocalist from the South Korean 2 PM boy band.
Co-producer Adirek Wattaleela said the shooting of the movie mainly took place in South Korea, which accounted for around 70 per cent of the storyline. Sangar Chatchairungruang, chief executive officer of Transformation Film, said his company aimed to generate revenue of at least Bt100 million from the film project. The movie will be screened around the middle of April.
Apart from “Tae Kob Fah Cha-lui 2015”, Sangar said that throughout this year, his company would be preparing five more films for release, with a production cost of around Bt20 million to Bt30 million apiece.
