AOT set to name new head

The new president of the Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) should be announced today, while the agency continues to go ahead with its plan to expand airports nationwide and launch promotions to deal with the rebound in the travel industry.

The company’s management and presidency selection committee chairman, Rakop Srisupa-at, said he obtained vision and strategy plans from the four short-listed candidates yesterday. The four candidates are Korkij Danchaivichit, Nitinai Sirismatthakarn, Krit Thanisarapong and Manoonrat Lertkomolsuk.

"The company’s board of directors will meet today and are likely to chose one of the four candidates," an AOT representative said.

AOT director Nirandra Theeranartsin is currently the acting president. AOT, which operates six international airports in the Kingdom, including Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, invited the public to join the race for the top post since October last year.

This year, Don Mueang Airport is set to operate at full capacity, as the expansion work is nearly completed. Expansion work is also being done at the Phuket International Airport.

The new AOT president is expected to continue with one of the biggest investments – the expansion of Suvarnabhumi International Airport – as well as seek investment on duty-free business at the newly expanded airports.

Last year, AOT’s total revenue stood at Bt39 billion, registering a 4.56 per cent drop from Bt41 billion in 2013. However, statistics in October and December last year showed that passenger numbers had risen 13 per cent year on year and 21 per cent quarter on quarter to a quarterly record high of 25.9 million.
