Pampering purr-fection

Pampering purr-fection

The new Sanrio Hello Kitty Spa offers a full-range of five-star treatments for body and mind

SANRIO’S HELLO Kitty fans in Bangkok no longer have to limit themselves to buying up the wide range of merchandise represented by this business-savvy cat. Now, they can also enjoy head-to-toe pampering at the world’s first ever Sanrio Hello Kitty Spa and immerse themselves totally in the comfortable world of the cute white bobtail feline with a red bow.
Located on the lower level of Sanrio Hello Kitty House cafe in Siam Square, the spa is, as one would expect, decorated in dreamy pink, purple and white. Unlike the Hello Kitty Spa in Dubai that only offers a beauty service, the Bangkok branch provides the full range of spa services.
But behind the cute facade, Sanrio Hello Kitty Spa is for |real. The staff – and no, they don’t wear Hello Kitty masks or costumes – are serious about the quality of every treatment and the service you get here is every bit as good as at private or hotel spas. Spread over 120 square meters, the spa offers massages, scrubs, facial and beauty programmes such as waxing and nail art. There are three treatment rooms, three facial beds, one chamber dedicated to eyelash extension and waxing as well as several stations for manicure and pedicure.
The treatment menu is compact but adequate. Each body treatment uses Sanrio Hello Kitty Spa’s signature massage moves that blend elements of both Eastern and Western techniques to relax and soothe weary muscles and tired minds.
Recommended is 60-minute Hello Kitty Dream Body Massage (Bt2,200) that not only relaxes but also revitalises thanks to long and short strokes with occasional acupressure on joints and tense muscles. For even more pampering, add a 30-minute Organic Herbal Ball compress (Bt600) or Seaweed Mud Detoxifying (Bt1,000).
Other interesting treatments include Kitty Glowing Scrubs (Bt1,800) that provide a thorough exfoliating body scrub followed by relaxing massage, and the 150-minute Kitty Queen Signature Body Programme (Bt3,500), which includes anti-cellulite and detoxifying clay wrap and a pampering massage.
There are four massage oils to choose from and while each claim to be specifically designed to pair with the personality of each blood type, the customer can choose whichever she prefers.
On the downside, the treatment rooms are very compact, so it’s best to manoeuvre carefully when getting down from the bed. The small size always means that there are no en-suite restrooms. More discomfiting though, is the Hello Kitty jingle played in the shop next door, which intrudes on the spa’s soothing soundtrack.
Another service that is very popular here, especially among |Hello Kitty fans, is nail art. From the Bt500 nail polish to the Bt1,900 hand-and-foot paraffin, you can choose between standard nail polishing, floral nail paint or Hello Kitty-themed paint. Children under 13 years old are catered to with a “kids’ menu” that offers 50- per-cent off the service and washable, non-toxic nail lacquers.
Several discount packages both for body massage and nail service are on offer through March 31. .
