Kyaukphyu gets critical role in AEC

Kyaukphyu gets critical role in AEC

The Kyaukphyu region has become the Asean's last gateway and economically important spot, according to a report issued during the workshop regarding the Asean Economic Community (AEC) held on Tuesday at Sakura Tower, Yangon.

“Kyaukphyu is important for its geographically strategic location. Its surrounding waters are deep enough for large ocean-going vessels to dock. We need to use this potential well especially in exporting goods from the Rakhine State and all over the country through this gateway.
“For this reason, the tactical economic corridors linking Kyaukphyu and other local trade hubs need to be established particularly the Mandalay-Magway-Kyaukphyu corridor. Similarly, the rice from Ayeyawady Region can be exported through Kyaukphyu port. The region is in fact the last gateway for Asean,” said Tin Cho, the economic adviser of the Parami Energy Group of Companies.
Myanmar entrepreneurs need to understand the features of AEC which is to bring Asean members closer. Workshops are being held in Yangon, Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Hpa-An, and Myingyan to share the knowledge of AEC with local business entities.
Myawady is equally important as Kyaukphyu, some experts suggest.
More workshops will be held in Taunggyi, Kyaukphyu, Pathein, Monwya and the Chin State.
