Bangkok’s Chinatown will mark Chinese New Year along Yaowarat Road this Thursday and Friday and offers visitors the chance to admire the gift from China to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to mark her 60th birthday of three goats sculpted out of a single white emerald stone. It will be on show at the gate on Yaowarat Road. Cultural shows from different parts of China including Tibet will entertain festival-goers.
 
Tuk-tuk on the rocks
Team Thailand beat out competitors from South Korea, Poland, Finland and Italy recently to win the ice sculpture contest at the Sapporo Snow Festival 2015. Kuson Boonkorbsongserm, Amnuaysak Srisuk and Krisana Wongthep crafted Thailand’s iconic tuk-tuk from the ice and won the hearts of both judges and visitors.
 
Crafts on the canal
The “Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem: Bangkok Floating Market” is welcoming tourists until March 1. Located in the heart of Bangkok, this new government-initiated floating market offers a glimpse of bygone days along with Thai arts and crafts, souvenirs and delicacies from six more famous floating markets. It’s open from 3 to 8pm, while other shops along the canal operate from 11am.
 
Treats for the tummy
Leading French chef Laurent Peugeot will be at Namu, W Retreat Koh Samui’s signature restaurant, to create a six-course dinner of exquisite Epicurean creations on February 27 and 28. Peugeot was raised in Burgundy, a French region renowned for its gastronomy and wines. His many years of experience in Japan are also reflected in his culinary style that is infused with the simplicity of Japanese cuisine and the hearty flavours of Burgundy. His restaurant, Le Charlemagne in Pernand Vergelesses, was awarded 1 Michelin star in 2006 and has held it to this day. The dinner costs B10,000 per person.
