Human rights report near ready for UN

Human rights report near ready for UN The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) is preparing to send its first report to the United Nations, according to commission vice chairman Sait Myaing.

"We are going to report to the UN on human rights in Myanmar, but we haven't set the date yet," Sait Myaing said. "We are going to report what measures the commission has implemented and important incidents.
"We need cooperation from civic organisations to write the report. We have already met with civic organisations once. So, the civic organisations can send their reports to us, but it must be precise data."
MNHRC was established in September 2014. Previously, human rights reports were submitted to the UN by the government and some organisations based in border areas. This year’s report will include a survey by local civic organisations.
The report will contain key incidents in 2014, such as the deaths of freelance journalist Ko Par Gyi (aka Aung Kyaw Naing) and Daw Khin Win, killed in clashes at the Letpadaungtaung copper-mine project.
