Legal actions taken against two judges

Myint Aung, a judge of the Union Supreme Court, said legal actions were taken against two judges for their unjust verdicts and 36 other civil servants, mostly judges, for violating the code of conduct.

 
 The two judges from Sagaing Region and Yangon Region were found guilty of corruption. The first was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment under section 56 of anti-corruption law, while the other is facing charges, Myint Aung said during the Lower House parliamentary session in Nay Pyi Taw on March 12.
He also said that seven judges from Tada-U, Kayan, Amarapura, Kani, Mawlamyine and Mingaladon Townships were suspected of bribery and corruption and were forced to retire. Two judges from Pathein and Myeik Districts were found guilty of handing down wrong judgment and were demoted as a punishment. A disciplinary action was taken against the judge of Yemathin Township.
Two judges from Nyaung-U and Nattalin Townships were forced to retire early. Four judges from Ayadaw, Kyauktaw, Nyaung-U and Pyapon were demoted. The salary increment of the judge of Yankin Township was suspended. Moreover, 19 judges from 19 townships were facing disciplinary actions, he added.
