US must be sporting and accept the current reality
Re: "US urges allies to think twice before joining China-led bank", World Business, March 19.
The new China-led Asian development bank – Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) – has been warmly welcome in Asia, except by Japan. The Chinese initiative since October 2013 was caused by the slowness of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank in taking full cognisance of China’s economic and financial importance. China’s expectations have been frustrated by America and her allies, the dominant nation in those two development banks. Recently, that concerted western front collapsed like dominos with Germany, France and Italy leading the pack in defying American pressure. They will soon be followed by Britain, Belgium and Switzerland in becoming the charter members of this third world development bank. Therefore, I view the US urging of its allies to think twice as somewhat naive and unusually unsportsmanlike for Americans. Be a gentleman and accept the inevitable!
