I note that Mr Martin forgets to mention the concept of Naskh, meaning abrogation. All four schools of Sunni jurisprudence agree that, whenever there is a contradiction in the Koran, the latest interpretation is valid, and that is when Mohammad was in Medina and no longer had to hide his identity. There are not many pleasant sayings in the Koran. The ones there are have most likely been abrogated.
