Spring Professional launches supply chain, logistics speciality in Bangkok

Spring Professional, the wholly owned professional recruitment arm of the Adecco Group in Asia, has launched a supply chain and logistics (SC&L) speciality in Bangkok.

“The need for good logistics management, as well as the faster delivery of a big-data warehouse to support the needs and higher expectations of consumers, is one trend affecting technology in the logistics space,” said Suntaree Limmanont, Spring Professional Thailand country director.
“Logistics companies today should look towards not only supply-chain talent but those who are proficient in e-commerce and digital marketing. Having employees who are familiar with these trends can benefit their employers in the area of online channel retailing.”
Thienthun Neesanant, the company’s talent and organisational development director for Southeast Asia, said talent development and retention were essential as Thailand strove to address its shortage of junior to middle management SC&L professionals.
“Organisations must play an important role to develop a globally competitive pool of SC&L talent by maximising knowledge transfer between seasoned expatriates and local talent or through promoting regional mobility among young managers,” Thienthun said.
Spring Professional said that with the full implementation of the Asean Economic Community set for December 31, Thailand was gearing up for a marked increase in demand for skilled SC&L talent, fuelled by the influx of economic and manufacturing activities that would follow the integration of Southeast Asian markets into a proposed singular market and production base.
It said this demand would be further bolstered by the exponential growth of e-commerce in Thailand, which was expected to be worth US$1 billion (Bt33 billion) this year, with further potential to grow up to $6 billion in 2020-2025.
This has spurred logistics companies to create new business units for e-commerce solutions, in order to provide efficient logistics solutions for multi-channel retailing and to meet the new challenges brought about by technology and the changing landscape of the SC&L industry.
The company said that as Thailand’s core manufacturing industries in automotive, electronics and food production continued to expand, the SC&L industry was set to maintain its steady growth.
Currently, there were 6.62 million and 1.11 million professionals employed in the manufacturing and logistics industries, with this number expected to increase as demand for SC&L talent in the region rises.
To that end, Spring Professional said the government had implemented an ambitious management development plan for manufacturing, logistics and supply chains, which aimed to develop more than 7,500 SC&L professionals by next year as one of its three key concerns.
