Blinded by Islamophobia

Blinded by Islamophobia

It would take more than a few lines to deal with Mr Wilcox's over-simplistic view of Islam in general, but his attempt to justify the inhuman treatment meted out to the Rohingya in Myanmar by citing the threat they supposedly present as Muslims should not

For a start, they are being persecuted not so much because they practise a different religion but because they belong to a different ethnicity. Bangladesh, which is a Muslim country, also refuses to accept them. Their persecution started long before the appearance of ISIS and other radical Islamist groups. Moreover, their numbers are so small that they cannot possibly be considered a threat.

That their persecution should be encouraged by Buddhist monks, as was the case for the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka, is particularly disgraceful, as is the fact that the leaders of the supposedly democratic opposition in Myanmar, including Aung San Suu Kyi, have been unwilling to denounce it.
