Dusit to open Asean-standard hotel school in August

Dusit to open Asean-standard hotel school in August

DUSIT INTERNATIONAL will open Dusit Thani Hotel School in Bangkok in August, aiming to produce up to 4,000 Asean-standard workers per year for the hotel and tourism industry.

Chanin Donavanik, managing director and chief executive officer, said the group’s education division was already operating Dusit Thani College and a joint venture called Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School. After about two years of preparation, it now is ready to open the new school on Phetchaburi Road.
“It will be Thailand’s first hospitality school based on Asean Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals,” Chanin said.
“The school will offer a complete curriculum at both certificate and diploma levels, covering all areas of hotel operations. It will be operated separately from Dusit Thani College, where those who want to further their studies may transfer credits to enrol in the college’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. Additionally, credits from the Dusit Thani Hotel School are transferable to higher-education institutions throughout the country.”
Dusit spent more than Bt300 million on renovation under a 40-year rental contract. The school will feature 7,000 square metres of learning space, including classrooms, language laboratories, IT laboratories with the latest industry software programs, demonstration kitchens, practical kitchens, and mock-up rooms of key hotel areas, such as a front office, housekeeping, restaurant and bar.
“We offer six to eight months of classes at an average cost of Bt60,000. We can produce up to 4,000 workers for the hotel and tourism industry per year,” Chanin said.
The curriculum has been designed with different entry and exit points, allowing for flexible programmes that students can tailor to suit their goals. Students will acquire the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to enter the hospitality field upon graduation anywhere in the Asean Economic Community.
Aside from Thailand, Dusit Group is now operating schools or training centres in seven countries: Bhutan, China, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Myanmar. The group is talking with partners in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives about opening new hotels.
