US ready for a coronation

US ready for a coronation

Is America becoming a monarchy? The notion might sound weird, but it is now a distinct possibility.

The next presidential election will see two political dynasties pitted against each other. On the one side is the Bush dynasty, which has been the real power in the US since the 19th century, both out in the open and behind the scenes. On the other side, the Clinton camp cannot yet call itself a dynasty, but after more than a quarter of a century, Bill Clinton’s shadow remains ominous and long.
With his wife in the Democratic Party driver’s seat, no one can rule out that another dynasty might be born.
To be sure, political dynasties are nothing new in the United States, dating back to the second president, John Adams.
Save for the assassination of two brothers and a third one’s car accident, the US would have been a monarchy starting in the 1960s.
Camelot did not happen because JFK was struck down by an assassin’s bullets.
I will predict that there will be no real issues in this campaign, only the usual struggle for the throne between a possible king (Jeb Bush) and a possible queen (Hillary Clinton). Nothing of substance will come out of the election. Britain’s King George III is now looking down from heaven and laughing. “See?” I hear him saying. “In the end you’re becoming the United Kingdom of America.” Indeed, there is a nice ring to that assertion.
