Thailand Post performance in first half exceeds expectations

THAILAND POST Co reported higher-than-expected revenue and profit in the first six months of Bt11 billion and Bt1.3 billion respectively, thanks to the rapid growth of its delivery service to serve the booming e-commerce sector.

Earlier the state enterprise expected revenue of Bt10.7 billion and profit of Bt1.2 billion in the first half.
It forecasts revenue of Bt22 billion this year with Bt2 billion in profit.
Revenue from Thailand Post’s parcel-delivery service in the first half was Bt5.12 billion, or 46 per cent of the total, followed by communication services such as postcards with Bt4.8 billion or 43.6 per cent.
Thailand Post yesterday launched a campaign to guarantee EMS express delivery without damage. Piyawat Mahapauraya, senior executive vice president and acting president of Thailand Post, said the campaign would be offered at 17 branches in metropolitan Bangkok in the first stage before expanding to all branches nationwide.
To qualify for the no-damage guarantee, EMS customers will have to buy shockproof packaging at the branches. If the package is damaged from transport, they will be compensated at 1.5 times of the value of the product, up to Bt3,000 per piece.
Thailand Post will spend around Bt20 million to change its parcel handling from putting them in bags for delivery to putting them in secure boxes to prevent damage during transport.
