Thailand Post revenues soar from border trade boom

Thailand Post revenues soar from border trade boom

BORDER-TRADE in many provinces, especially in Sa Kaew on the Thai-Cambodia border, has become a growing source of revenue for Thailand Post's postal and logistics service business.

At Sa Kaew, people purchase products at the famous Rongklue market and have them delivered by post to their homes.
According to Thailand Post, the combined revenue from its three branches in the province during the first six months of this year grew 35 per cent to Bt45 million, up from Bt33 million from last year.
In order to cope with the boom in eastern-border trade, Thailand Post invested Bt120 million on upgrading its mail centre in Prachin Buri to turn it into a mail hub.
The upgrade is due to be finished in the middle of next year.
The new mail centre will receive parcels from branches in four eastern provinces – Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao and Sa Kaew – and distribute them to 17 mail-hub centres throughout Thailand.
Sa Kaew is one of special economic provinces under the government’s policy to promote border trade.
Thailand Post recently reported half-yearly revenue of Bt11 billion with Bt1.3 billion profit.
The revenue figure is higher than the previous Bt10.7-billion revenue and Bt1.2-billion profit targets. The company forecasts its revenue to reach Bt22 billion this year for a Bt2-billion profit.
