Boost to technology start-ups

Boost to technology start-ups

THAMMASAT UNIVERSITY, in cooperation with the Institute for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ISMED), has announced its partnership with Silicon Valley-based Spinta Global Accelerator to provide a boost to Thai technology start-ups and help them g

Along with Thammasat and ISMED, Spinta will help various innovative technologies developed at the university to be converted into viable businesses, while also inspiring other Thai entrepreneurs to convert their scalable and innovative ideas into world-class start-ups.
Professor Doctor Somkit Lertpaitoon, rector of Thammasat University, said one of the three major policies to which the university is highly committed was promoting itself as a leading international research university, building on its efforts to provide higher-level education in a wide array of disciplines ranging from science and technology to health sciences, social sciences and humanities.
He said Thammasat’s vigorous research projects are constantly initiated and promoted as part of the university’s endeavour to achieve research and academic excellence, which will in turn provide solutions for national and world issues.
“Thammasat is pleased to collaborate with ISMED and Spinta in this venture to provide opportunities for Thammasat researchers and inventors to bring their inventions and technologies to the international business arena,” Somkit said.
“We expect that Thammasat’s internationally recognised and award-winning inventions and research projects will be developed into viable businesses that bring a better quality of life to Thai people and the world,” he said.
Spinta Global Accelerator, based in Silicon Valley and with offices in the United States, India, Thailand and Singapore, offers a unique “Katalyst” model to start-ups all over the globe. Spinta also helps start-ups in obtaining seed as well as Series A funding.
Prashant Parekh, chief entrepreneur officer of Spinta, said its model was different than those of other accelerators. “While other accelerators are doing a good job, there are gaps in their models. They have a very structured approach to entrepreneurship. Spinta provides a global board of mentors to help the founders of start-ups in a one-on-one environment.
“Also, one of the biggest differentiations Spinta brings to start-ups is the creation of a minimum viable product.”
Interested entrepreneurs and start-ups can go to spintaccel.com to complete and submit an online application form, including an overview of their concepts and ideas about innovation, new service platforms, and new products, as well as submit a resume. Spinta will consider each application based on the possibility of developing a business plan. At the end, Spinta will select qualified applicants to support their projects.
