Approval to APEC's CEBU action plan

Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong agreed to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s “Cebu Action Plan”, which will direct the forum’s fiscal and monetary cooperation over the next 10 years, at the 22nd Apec Finance Ministers’ Meeting in the Philippines on September 10 and 11.

Under the action plan, financial integration will be promoted for trade and investment integration through experience-sharing, and each economy’s emphasis on capital access for micro- and small and medium-sized enterprises, remittance flows, and support for the Asia Region Funds Passport.

Simultaneously, fiscal reforms and transparency will be advanced for fiscal-resource efficiency, while Apec members will be encouraged to set public-investment frameworks and fiscal reforms with public information disclosure and best practices.

The finance ministers of Thailand, Australia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and New Zealand signed the Statement of Understanding on the Establishment of the Asia Region Funds Passport, expressing their intention to grant permission for the funds’ unit sales.

TPC Power Holding hopes to open a 150-megawatt biomass power plant within the next three years and a 200MW biomass plant by 2020 in the South, company president Cherdsak Wattanavijitkul said yesterday.

As for its operational results for the first six months, the listed company posted a net profit of Bt6.9 million, of which Bt5.55 million was made in the second quarter. The company expects third-quarter results to reflect continuing growth despite a delay in the commercial-operation date for Mae Wong Energy, Cherdsak said.

digital hub status eyed

The Telecommunications Association of Thailand plans to collaborate with private and state telecom agencies in a move aimed at making the country an Asean digital hub, its new president, Suphachai Chearavanont, said yesterday.

The association has set up a working group to study the plan, which will be submitted to the government soon.

The move, which is aimed at supporting the government’s “digital economy” policy, will involve investment in telecom infrastructure and an invitation to major foreign content companies to establish bases in Thailand, Suphachai said.

The association celebrated its 25th anniversary on Monday.
