Prayut must respond to UN rights abuse charge

Ref: Editorial: EU criticism brings government back to reality, October 11, 2015.

No matter how much success Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha thinks he has achieved from his recent visit to the US and his appearance at the UN General Assembly, the fact remains that he is not a democratically elected leader, and whatever his government does will be closely monitored by the world community.
Now, with the EU resolution criticising Thailand for human rights abuses having come up, PM Prayut must face such criticism fairly and squarely.
The Thai junta must explain this “human rights abuse” question clearly and truthfully to the world community, and act quickly and decisively if something has gone wrong as accused.
Sensible Thais will support the government only if it functions in accordance with the practices that are universally accepted by the international community.
