HK Disneyland offers discount packages

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is promoting new attractions and offering packages at discounts of up to 60 per cent to lure Thai tourists during the year-end high season.

Managing director Andrew Kam said the biggest package would be priced at Bt6,996 per person, or 60 per cent lower than the normal market price. Tourists can book this package at one travel company, Six Star. It includes round-trip air fare on Cathay Pacific and meals but not accommodation.

“This is the biggest discount and for the Thailand market only. The promotion is part of [Hong Kong Disneyland’s] 10th anniversary and we want to have more Thai visitors as they are [among the] top spenders,” Kam said.

He added that the resort would offer a one-hour sale at its booth at CentralWorld today from 6-7pm.

Thai customers can choose from options including “buy one, get one free” and 30-per-cent discounts for hotel rooms at the resort. Special prices for one- or two-day stays are also available.

This promotion is set for the travelling period from December 26 until the end of March.

Kam said the resort and CentralWorld would present some Disney characters during the year-end season as part of the celebration.

For other markets like mainland China, tourists may get specials for one-day visits.

Some of the highlights prepared for this year’s celebration are the integration of fireworks and music in featured stories called three-dimensional projection shows and a live musical show called “Mickey and the Wondrous Book”.

“Last year, the resort introduced some new activities such as the Frozen theme. This year, we will [have] more highlighted shows for Thai fans.”

Currently, top markets for the resort are mainland China (40 per cent), Hong Kong (30 per cent) and Southeast Asia (20 per cent). Thailand accounts for about 5 per cent of international guests or about 100,000 per year. The number of visitors from Thailand has grown by 22 per cent from five years ago.

“We hope to attract more from Thailand this year and to continue next year. Thailand is one of the top spenders for the resort along with Indonesia,” Kam said.

Foreigners travelling to Hong Kong spend an average of 3.5 days per trip.

Asked about preparations against possible violence or terrorist attacks, he said Hong Kong and the park were safe places. The park has a security system.

In order of attendance numbers, Tokyo Disneyland is the world’s most popular theme park, followed by Tokyo Disney Sea, Universal Studio Osaka, Ocean Park Hong Kong, Lotte World Korea, and Hong Kong Disneyland.
