Commerce Ministry plans boost for OTOP producers
UNDER THE government's plan to support local enterprises, the Commerce Ministry has come up with a plan to hopefully help 450 One Tambon One Product enterprises become international traders and producers of high-end products.
Deputy Commerce Minister Suvit Maesincee said that the government had recently agreed to the plan to promote Otop producers because it believed they were key to driving local economic growth and boosting local economies.
In a bid to drive Otop growth, the government will work closely with large enterprises, including petrol stations, duty-free shops, and e-commerce traders, to maximise marketing channels. Under the Otop roadmap 2016, Suvit said that the government would also encourage enterprises to upgrade product designs and quality through innovation, create new brands, develop packaging, and seek new distribution channels for overseas traders.
The Commerce Ministry’s Business Development Department is responsible for training Otop enterprises and finding markets for such products. It also aims to increase online trading channels for Otop enterprises.
The website www.thaicommercestore.com will be used to promote at least 300 Otop enterprises.
The products of some Thai enterprises will also be promoted on www.thaitrade.com through the TV Direct programme and through shopping catalogues.
A Commerce Ministry survey found that Thailand has 2,661 Otop products. The government will encourage PTT Plc to sell more Otop products and for duty-free shops at Suvarnabhumi Airport to sell them. Currently 148 PTT petrol stations selling Otop products.
Meanwhile, the Business Development Department is now providing a one-stop service so enterprises can register their businesses at one place.
The service began on Monday.
