Thailand’s difficult global mission for 2016

The coming year has special significance for Thailand in the sphere of international diplomacy as it assumes the chair of the United Nations’ Group of 77, a coalition of developing nations.
The role will see Thailand serve as a bridge-builder among the G77 countries and all 193 UN member states. The importance and complexity of this diplomatic task is heightened by the present context of an ongoing global crisis encompassing the climate, the economy, food, energy, institutions, cultures, religion and even basic ethics that resembles a state of permanent war.
So it seems appropriate to wish Thailand full success in its commitment to promoting a more democratic world economy and to pursuing the specific needs and aspirations of developing countries amid a framework of global solidarity.
