Feeling fine with Dvicio

Feeling fine with Dvicio

The Spanish pop band drops into Bangkok later this month for a show and fan meeting

WHILE SUCH Latino rhythms as veteran guitarist Santana’s rocking version of “Oye Como Va” have shaken Thai sensibilities over the years, Spanish pop music per se has not made a big splash on our shores. That’s about to change later this month as the young Spanish pop outfit Dvicio jets into Bangkok for the “Enamorate Con Dvicio”, which is being held at Muang Thai GMM Live House on February 27.
The band, which comprises brothers Andres and Martin Ceballos Sanchez along with former primary school mates Nacho Gotor, Alberto Gonzalez and Luis Gonzalvo, will perform numbers off their debut album, “Justo Ahora” including the English versions of “Paraiso” and “Enamorate” (“In Love’). The latter has been played so often on the radio to publicise the upcoming gig that it’s now topping the Eazy FM Chart.
“We started playing together when we were 10 or 11. We chose the name Dvicio because of its meaning – ‘everything is fine, everything is cool’,” Andres says. “And we feel really happy as the last thing we expected was to perform in Thailand.”
Thai fans will also be able to enjoy face-to-face interaction with the band through special games and an in-depth interview on the rather staid topic “Thai-Spanish Cultural Exchange”, plus a performance that has been specially prepared for the Bangkok fan-meeting.
“It will definitely be a full-on live show and fan event. You have to be there to see what surprises they have in store for Thai fans,” says the band’s promoter.
Dvicio formed in 2009 under the name Tiempo Limite and released a series of hits including “El Canto del Loco”, “Detras de mis Miedos” and “Duena de mi mente”. In 2011, they won the top prize with their cover of “Titanium” in the music competition held by ABC Punto Radio and after that they renamed their band Dvicio. In 2013, they signed with Sony Music Entertainment Spain and came up with their debut studio album, “Justo Ahora” (“Right Now”).
The lead single, a catchy little number called “Paraiso”, gained more fame on YouTube when employees of the fast food chain McDonalds in Spain performed to the song in a flash mob release that went viral. McDonalds Spain went on to use the "Paraiso" theme in a catchy series of promotional ads, also releasing tutorial videos encouraging everybody to try the dance.
The band’s other singles are “Justo Ahora” and “Enamorate.”
And to show how much they are looking forward to playing in front of a Thai audience, the five boys recently released a clip of the song “Yoo Tor Loey Dai Mai” originally performed by Thai artist Singto Numchok.
“We practised for days to be able to sing this small excerpt of the number,” Andres laughs.
“It is intended as a special gift for our Thai fans, and we hope that it will please them. As for the full version of this song or perhaps even more songs, all we can say is come along to upcoming fan meeting. What is certain is that we have a number of special shows in the pipeline, exclusively prepared for our fans. See you then!”
