Making a play for power

Making a play for power

A new online game for smartphones and tablets takes its cue from wuxia novelist Gu Long

MOBILE GU LONG is a smartphone online game that allows you to interact with characters from famous wuxia (Chinese martial arts) stories by the late novelist Xiong Yaohua, who is better known by his penname Gu Long. The app, which is available for both Android and iOS devices, has just been launched in Thailand by AsiaSoft’s PlayPark.
The action strategy game features beautiful graphics and fluid and fast animations. The characters in the game have the special winning attack moves belonging to the characters in Gu Long’s novels.
The game’s heroes are taken from more than 10 Gu Long stories, including “Lu Xiao Feng” and “Jiang Xiao Yu”.
The game currently has more than 80 characters from the novels and PlayPark says more will be added later.
The characters use the hammer, scissors and paper system to determine the conditions for winning each fight. They are divided into three types: those that feature strength are the hammer characters, those with strong fighting techniques are the scissors and those with agility are the paper characters.
The hammer characters will beat the scissors at the same or similar levels while the scissors will beat the paper and the paper will overcome the hammers.
The game has several missions and you will be told what kind of character is the main fighter so you can select your team. You’re allowed a team of three for each mission and can change the main fighter during the battle.
Controlling the fight and movement of the character is achieving by tapping the screen or the attack buttons. Auto play and auto attack features are also available.
The game does not allow you to create a character but instead assigns you a character randomly. You will be given more characters after you achieve certain missions. Your characters will earn experience points and experience pills for upgrading their levels.
The characters in the game are colour-coded to express their levels and fighting capabilities with blue indicating normal and red the top level.
You start the game with a tutorial that offers a full-level character to help you understand the fighting technique and special attack moves.
After you have completed the tutorial, you will be given a team. You can be given characters through lucky draws, or by buying characters as well as by winning rewards from certain missions.
The game is free to play and the game currency, which is needed to buy characters, armour, weapons or items to boost the fighting capabilities of your characters, can be purchased through LINE Pay, TrueMoney and Acash.
