ATM, CDM fees waived for Songkran

The Thai Bankers Association announced yesterday that its members would waive the fees for cash withdrawals from same-bank ATMs and deposit via same-bank cash deposit machines nationwide during the Songkran holidays (April 13-17).

“The members agreed to this to support the tourism industry during the festival,” TBA secretary-general Kobsak Duangdee said in a statement.

Special interest rate

Krungthai Bank yesterday cut its lending rate for the unsecured loan product it calls “Super Easy” from 20 per cent per annum to 15 per cent to celebrate the bank’s 50th anniversary.
Super Easy was designed for salaried persons earning Bt20,000 a month, offering credit lines of a maximum of five times their monthly salary.
The new interest rate will be offered to borrowers who apply for a three-year loan term.
Customers wanting the special rate are required to apply and be approved before September 30.

Maritime cybersecurity deal

Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) and Inmarsat, a British satellite telecommunications company, have entered a strategic partnership to enhance maritime cybersecurity using Trustwave’s Unified Threat Management (UTM) solution.
Trustwave, the cybersecurity arm of Singtel, will provide the software-based UTM service to be integrated with Inmarsat hardware on board ships, to protect data and reduce cyber-risk for maritime companies.
The UTM service offers a suite of cybersecurity defences, such as advance firewall, anti-virus, intrusion prevention and web filtering, which is backed by global around-the-clock support. It will be delivered through Fleet Xpress, the first globally available, high-speed broadband solution for maritime and offshore operators available from a single communications provider.
Andrew Lim, managing director of Singtel’s group enterprise business group, said: “Our partnership with Inmarsat is important as it marks the first phase in rolling out Singtel cyber-security services for Inmarsat, starting with maritime.
“Shipping still moves about 90 per cent of the world’s trade, hence the maritime industry is a significant backbone of the global supply chain. As maritime systems become more digital, it is imperative for the industry to protect data on board ships against all forms of cyberattacks.
“Our partnership with Inmarsat will provide maritime companies with a cybersecurity solution to meet rapidly evolving cyber-threats, globally.”
Ronald Spithout, president of Inmarsat Maritime, said: “The landscape of shipping is changing. As we move from traditional shipping into the ship-intelligence era, the threat of cyberattacks [has] never been more real.
“Risks from malicious attacks and unlawful access to a ship’s intelligence, its system infrastructure and networks cannot be ignored, and the shipping industry needs to take action.”
Singtel and Inmarsat plan to launch the new maritime cybersecurity service in the second half of this year.
