EO Thailand chairwoman shares her insights

Involved in diversified businesses, Sasamon Sanguansin, chairwoman of the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation Thailand (EO Thailand), shares her valuable views on how to start up a business effectively.

The Entrepreneurs’ Organisation Thailand is a part of the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation that was established in 1987 in the United States. It currently has more than 20,000 member entrepreneurs in more than 50 countries worldwide.
In Thailand, the organisation was established in 1996 and currently has more than 100 members from across all industries, such as consumer goods, finance and insurance, garments and textiles, automotive, petrochemical and chemical products, packaging, property and construction, mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, food and beverages, heavy industry and services.
Thai entrepreneurs have created more than 50,000 jobs.
The main objective of EO Thailand is to promote information and experience sharing.

Overview about doing business
Entrust ownership in all working units. Everyone needs to see the importance of a service-oriented mind as a key competitive edge for businesses today.
Think global, act local. We need to get all employees to aim high and strive to reach the same goal through collaboration and working in sync.
Lifetime learning. Never stop learning new things and share your knowledge with other people in the organisation.
Today we need to understand the emerging business trends of start-ups, venture capital and crowd funding, the upcoming ageing society, the demise of brokers as customers opt for direct purchases, and find the right business successors.

Passing on the business

Teamwork and a good system are essential. Passing on a business is not limited to family members, but includes the whole organisation.
Mutual support and understanding of one another’s roles are important to push a business ahead and build growth.
All the businesses that I do – real estate, insurance, automobile after-sales services, and so on – are based on these fundamentals.
We sell customer satisfaction and trust. Our businesses can survive only when customers believe in our business ethics.
As business owners, when we can trust our people in the organisation, we can rest assured and focus on building growth or exploring new expansion and investment opportunities.

New business start-ups
I am very open-minded when it comes to starting a new business. It may be small but beautiful, strive for constant growth, or be built up and sold for millions.
Whatever it takes, knowledge and experience are always with us.
The important things are that the business must be based on good governance and fair dealing and generate positive outcomes for society.

The Thai economy
During economic hard times, we have to enhance our strengths. What else can we do? We have to reach our customers better and allow our customers to reach us faster and more easily.
We have to eliminate our weaknesses while raising awareness of our brands, services and products. We have to do what it takes to let our customers think of us, our products and our services first. For example, if they want insurance, they should think of Assets Insurance; if they want reliable after-sales service for their cars, they should come to our Phraram 9 Honda. These will enable our business to survive in any economic circumstances.

Global Leadership Conference
When looking at how this event last month contributed to Thailand, we are proud that it generated at least Bt300 million, including event organising expenses, speakers’ fees, travel and transport, venues and accommodation.
Other income generated indirectly from this event was from what the participants and family members spent on shopping and visiting places.
In addition to monetary terms, this event opened great opportunities for entrepreneurs from all over the world to explore and experience the charming Thai culture.
More important, foreign entrepreneurs who attended the event know more about Thailand, so they will be considering investing in the country.
